All My Skirts

Premiere: December 1, 2019, Košice

Abstract

All My Skirts is a solo contemporary circus performance by Ariadna Vendelová (SK), created under the supervision of Fred Deb’ (FR). In the piece, the aerial acrobat works with a single 70-meter-long silk as a material through which she symbolically shapes an architecture of life, of a human, a woman, a mother, searching for balance in time and space. The performance has been presented in Slovakia (Move Fest Košice, Art-In-Res Fest), the Czech Republic (Fun Fatale, Move Valmez), and France (La Nuit du Cirque, Les Rencontres de Danse Aérienne).

All My Skirts is an analysis of a body balancing and floating in time and space. A body that remembers and forgets, experiences, dreams, and awakens after hundreds of dreams under the weight of personal identities. Days that last forever and years that flow like water. The lives of mothers, unheard voices of women, invisible bodies. The compromises we make in order to survive. Deep self-awareness, memories, rituals of the present. What is left of me now?

Information about the company

Ariadna Vendelová (SK) is an internationally active aerial acrobat, choreographer and teacher from Košice, where she leads the contemporary circus company Lalyra, the studio Lalyra Academy, and the art-community platform Ariadnina Niť.

Her focus lies in movement and choreographic research within contemporary circus and aerial dance on silks and hoop, with overlaps into experimental movement installations and site-specific performance. Her work touches on themes of the body in time and space and its creative and metaphysical potential, as well as human, feminine, and environmental topics. Her approach to aerial dance is deeply influenced by nature, yoga practice, dance improvisation, motherhood, feminism, and the artistic-geographical isolation of her region.

She creates and collaborates on projects both in Slovakia and abroad. She has presented several original performances (Inner Spaces (2021), All My Skirts (2019/2020), In the Wind (2019), Birds (2018)), released a short dance film A Few Decades of Dying (2021), and performed in Sorry Gold at Dublin FringeFest 2020 with Emily Aoibheann, with whom she also founded and runs the Cat’s Paw Experimental Aerial Dance Meeting. She has worked with Divadlo Na peróne, the French ensemble Lá Hors De, and collaborates long-term with established French artist, choreographer, and acrobat Fred Deb’s, with whom she co-created All My Skirts.

She has led workshops in studios and festivals in Australia, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and France, and has been a finalist in several international competitions (USA, PL, HU).
