Arman Kupelyan and collective: Chuck My Life (by Špatné divadlo / Bad Theater)
Premiere: April 26, 2024 – Alfred ve dvoře, Prague
Abstract
Chuck My Life is a performance that uses butoh-clowning to explore how an individual struggles to cope with the pressures of everyday life. The main character, Chuck, tries to live a “normal” life, yet his understanding of how to function and exist comes from various self-proclaimed life “experts” and “coaches.” He is trapped in a cycle of borrowed behavioural patterns, completely missing their actual meaning.
Chuck’s greatest passion is inflatable balloons. He loves to play with them, surround himself with them, and draw joy from their presence. At the same time, he tries to find compatibility between this passion and the capitalist world he lives in. He experiments with every possible way to materially survive while still remaining happy.

Information about the company
We create original performances that combine elements of contemporary circus, dance, and performance art. Our aim is to explore new, more intimate relationships between performers and audiences by disrupting conventional theatrical structures. We use site-specific creation and close, sincere audience interaction as our tools. As society becomes increasingly politicized and polarized, we strive to navigate these shifts and respond to them through our artistic work.
