About the Program

As part of program OZVĚNY MOVE FEST OSTRAVA

Les (Forest) is the third and final part of Danijela Zajc’s personal trilogy Niti PraGozd. The trilogy began with Nite in 2019, continued with Prah in 2021, and concludes with Les (Forest).

In this work, the author explores the “engine” of social change, non-violent radicalization, and the role of the individual in society, with a focus on the position of women. She questions the relationship between individualization and collectivization, examines the dynamics between social and personal crises, and searches for parallels between the individual and society.

Forest draws symbolic parallels with the importance of protecting trees and forests, which, according to some data, may be even more crucial than reducing fossil fuel consumption.

The performance adopts an eco-feminist perspective, particularly reflecting on the artist’s own position within a predominantly patriarchal, neo-capitalist consumer society. Its aim is to expose today’s systemic functioning, a capitalist system doomed to self-destruction, and the absurdity of a situation that most people recognize, yet fail to address through radical change.

In addition to the author, the performance features five female performers and two live musicians. The performers were selected through an open call organized in collaboration between Tabačka Kulturfabrik (Slovakia) and MOVE Ostrava (Czech Republic), and worked with the author during an intensive residency in Košice.
